League Notice - Wednesday 11th November 2020

By Phil Kemble

More sad news befell the league this week as two more of our football family succumbed to long illnesses.

John Gibson better known as Gibbo played for Leasowe Rangers, Oyster Catcher and Black Horse Victoria and was a cultured midfielder.
A typical Leasowe lad who always enjoyed a pint and joined in the banter at every opportunity, but was always ready to put his boots on whenever football was mentioned.
Alas, he died at home after suffering a long illness, but his quick wit will never be forgotten. Condolences are expressed to his family and friends at this sad time.

Ian Shortall has also passed away after fighting a short illness.
Ian spent many years supporting junior football and volunteering in the community which included administration duties at the Vale House community centre. Having become a 'man in black', he took up the whistle and refereed in both Saturday and Sunday football leagues around Cheshire and built up a strong reputation as a good and fair official who provided a great service to all leagues and he was always appreciated in our league for his enthusiasm.

Former players and referees will be saddened at Ian's loss and we can only pass on our sincere condolences to Gloria and his family at this tragic loss of life.
