League Restart - Important information from Wirral Borough Council to all clubs

By Phil Kemble

Message from Ally Noonan Events & Lettings Officer Wirral Council

To all League Secretaries / Club Secretaries

Hope you’re all keeping well!

We can confirm that the Grassroots Football Season will restart on Monday 29 March 2021 until the 12/13 June 2021.

In line with the Football Association (FA) guidance, players and officials should arrive changed and should shower at home. Changing rooms and shower facilities will remain closed within the pavilions. This decision will be reviewed in line with updates from Central Government, Public Health and/or further guidance issued from the FA.

For the clubs that opted to have pavilion use:

Pavilions can be accessed for toilet facilities only.
To manage pavilions safely an attendant will visit the site frequently to open, monitor, clean and close the facility.
Signs will be in place to help clubs maintain social distancing and avoid overcrowding in these areas and to remind users to use the hand washing facilities.
Whilst clubs can now return to the pitches, safety measures need to be followed by clubs to ensure that they are compliant with current government legislation and guidance related to COVID-19. The latest FA guidance for clubs can be found attached.

Please note No spectators are allowed at grassroots football as part of step one of the Government’s roadmap. One parent or guardian per child is permitted, where clubs and facilities can safely accommodate this and following all appropriate guidance.

At all of our sites the following safety measures should be followed by all clubs:

Social distancing should be followed before, after, and during any breaks in competitive match play.
Coaches should encourage social distancing, where possible, during match play.
Hand sanitisation should be carried out by players and officials before, after, and during scheduled breaks in matches.
Minimise contact with surfaces including the ball by using boot to ball contact and in breaks of match play, the ball should be disinfected. Equipment should not be shared.
Goalkeepers should disinfect gloves before, after and during breaks in matches and thoroughly afterwards. Where possible, coaches should only handle equipment in matches.

Club members should not attend matches if they or anyone in their household or bubble has coronavirus or is showing COVID-19 symptoms or if they have been told to self-isolate by NHS test and trace. If anyone shows/has any signs of coronavirus, they must be sent home to act in accordance with Government guidance and cleaning protocols should then be put in place to reduce the risk of passing the infection on to other people.

Clubs must support NHS Test and trace and keep a record of attendees at a match, including their contact details.

Thank you again for your patience and we look forward to welcoming clubs back to enjoy football safely at council pitches when the 20/21 season restarts next week.
