Season 2023-24 - Review Week Thirty 14th April 2024

The final of the Dutchman Cup saw Shore Villa take the trophy after a very hard-fought encounter versus the gallant New Brighton Town team who were playing in their first ever final, as the game went to a penalty shoot-out, with Villa keeping their nerves to win 3-2. This after Town had opened the scoring in the first half through Greg Williams, but Sonny Croft replied before the break. Williams then restored Town’s lead in the second half but a goalmouth scramble with ten minutes remaining saw Sam Range level the scores which took the final into the dreaded penalty syndrome. Both teams selected a player of the match from the opposition and saw Michael McCullough get Villa’s and Ellis Lamb got the award for Town.
Magee Cup 2nd round games saw plenty of goals as Vineyard won an eight-goal thriller versus Wallasey Wanderers 5-3 thanks to Tom Reynolds netting a double with Joel Campbell, Lachlan Cote and Macauley Lewis adding singles. Bagging the replies were Morgan Catterson and Matty Madden with a double.
PLCCFC bowled over AFC Shore Villa 6-1 due to doubles by Matty Beaman and Jack Jones, plus singles from Luca Murtagh and George Craven, with Matty Bowman claiming the consolation.
Trident sprung the surprise of the round when beating Finnigan FC 4-0 thanks to a brace from Michal Moche and singles from Jake Adams and Sam Bonner in a good team performance.
Only two fixtures took place in the Moreton Alarms Supplies Second Division and following North West Harriers 5-1 defeat of below strength FC Greasby they are now only two points behind the leaders. Paddy Killen notched the only strike for Greasby, but both Dean Scott and Riley Jones netted doubles for Harriers who also had Adam Pickering on target.
Also taking the spoils with a 5-1 success were Barnston FC as they overcame Wallasey Wolves with Ben Ryan scoring a brace and Will Albiston, Josh Walters and Jason Stephens all bagging singles to remain third in the division on goal difference.
Next Sunday 21st April sees the final of the Capitol Cup with One O’clock Gun FC playing Wallasey Wanderers FC at the KRCT Stadium which is the home ground of Cammell Laird 1907 FC.
Kick-off is at 11.00am.
