Plenty of goals in both divisions as 54 found the net in some great games. Bromborough Athletic top scorers with six in a ten-goal extravaganza versus Wallasey Wolves in the Moreton Alarms Supplies Second Division. Singles from Andy Grice, Jack Whitby, Roan Huggins and Nick Ashby added to a fine brace from Lewis Holt earned Athletic their first win and replies came from a George Webster double and singles from Luke Hardwick and Sean James in a 6-4 victory. Going nap were New Brighton Town as they overcame FC Greasby in a 5-2 verdict that saw Josh Skillen-2, Ewan Sait, Oscar Pugh and Andy Foy find the net with Corey Casey and Kieran Davies bag the responses. A Harry Brassey double allied to singles from Eric Gilmour and Shay Turpin earned Ellesmere Port Red Lions a 4-1 result over North West Harriers, whose only goal was an own goal. Undefeated Barnston FC defeated Park Royal 4-1 with goals from Jason Stephens-2, Jamie Mitchell and George Wilson in an end-to-end encounter. Shore Villa FC took the ‘derby day’ spoils when beating Shore Villa Athletic, who had led 1-0 at the break due to an own goal, but second half efforts from Ben Windle and a Kevin Walker brace gave FC the points in a 3-1 success and keeps them top of the division with a 100% record. Action from the MES Ltd First Division saw Finnigan FC go into top spot after they overcame Oldershaw FC despite going 1-0 behind as Darren Parry scored, but they responded with a four-goal blast from John Pomphrett and a single from Stewart Speed to win 5-1. Dropping into second place are One O’clock Gun who shared the points with Wallasey Wanderers in a 3-3 draw, with their scorers being Leighton Clarke, Paul Finn and Owen McMahon as Matty Madden netted twice and Macauley Lathom once in reply. A Ben Hawitt treble allied to a solo from Tom Mole gave Vineyard a 4-1 victory over Trident who had Tom Mulryan as their lone scorer. AFC Shore Villa recorded their first win of the campaign when taking the points from PLCCFC in a 3-1 win as Tom Rowlands bagged a double and James Outram a single, with Dan Hardman scoring for the visitors. A goal apiece from Alex Wilson and Gabe Cooper earned West Kirby Athletic a 2-0 success over Farmers Arms for their first victory.
After celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the league on Friday evening in the Floral Pavilion with guests of honour being the Executive Chairman of Tranmere Rovers FC Mark Palios and his wife Nicola, bad news befell one of the organisers, Gary Laycock, as his brother Brian died today after a long illness. Brian played many years in the league and in Saturday football and will be remembered as a full-blooded opponent who gave his all in every game. Our sincere condolences go to all his family and friends as this sad and tragic time.
