Season 2023-24 - Review Week Eight 1st October 2023

A reduced programme due to the torrential rain causing postponements, referees being withdrawn due to cup fixtures and teams failing to provide results is the reason for the short report. Mixed fortunes befell the teams in the Wirral District FA Amateur cup 1st round as Trident were eliminated 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out after drawing 0-0 with AFC Shore Villa and West Kirby Athletic had their game versus Poulton Vics S&S postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. No problems for Oldershaw FC who eased home 8-2 against AFC Shaftesbury as Dale Crawford rifled home a hat-trick, Caston Ball-Lalemi netted a double, with Joe Shelmerdine and Liam Stephens scoring singles and an own goal completed the victory.
One O’clock Gun shot down Clipper FC in a 4-2 success that saw Chris Hill, Chris Reilly, Owen McMahon and a late tap in by Ricci Neil secure safe passage into the next round. No luck for our two teams in the Wirral DFA Premier Cup 1st round as James Murray’s brace was not enough for PLCCFC as they were stumped 4-2 by Corsair PV FC and Queens Park defeated Vineyard with a late flurry of goals to ease home 7-0.Two games were postponed in the Moreton Alarms Supplies Second Division due to no referee’s being available to cover the fixtures, but Bromborough Athletic enjoyed yet another success when beating Ellesmere Port Red Lions in a nine-goal thriller 6-3. On target for Athletic were Jamie McNulty, Nick Ashby, Lee McNulty and Roan Huggins who claimed a hat-trick. The responses came from Matty Roberts and a brace from Eric Gilmour in a great contest.
Plenty of cup fixtures again next week and all teams are reminded that they must phone in the results of all fixtures, whether home or away.
