Nathan Leyland was a two-goal hero for West Kirby Athletic as they came from a goal down to defeat Vineyard, who opened the scoring after only 5 minutes through Callum Morrison in the First Division Cup semi-final and will now play PLCCFC in the final on Sunday 24th March at Cammell Laird 1907 FC, with an 11.00am kick off. A very even affair saw both teams striving to reach the final as Leyland levelled matters before half time and notched the winner in the final five minutes.
The battle for the MES Ltd First Division title continues after Finnigan FC beat Trident 7-1, to move within a point of the inactive leaders. The only goal for Trident came from Eddie Fellows, with Stewart Speed bagging a treble in response, plus a double from Kevin Parr and singles from Adam McCreevy and John Pomphrett in a good team effort.
An excellent encounter between PLCCFC and Wallasey Wanderers saw the latter edge the contest with a 2-1 victory, but they had to battle hard after going 2-0 ahead thanks to a Morgan Catterson brace, as PLC fought back in the final 20 minutes but only netted once through Danny Hardman and so Wanderers are now in fourth place with games in hand.
Farmers Arms leapfrogged AFC Shore Villa following their 3-0 success in which Liam Pitt netted a brace of goals and Alex Clarke scored the single.
In the Dutchman Cup 2nd round a goal apiece from Joe Murphy and George Redfern enabled North West Harriers to see off the challenge of Park Royal as they ran out 2-0 winners.
Shore Villa also progressed thanks to the award of tree penalties as they defeated Barnston FC 4-3. On target for Villa were Ben Windle, Mark Houston, Kevin Walker and Tom Oliver and hitting the replies in a great game were Jason Stephens with a double and George Wilson.
A solitary goal in the second half for New Brighton Town by Greg Williams gave them a hard-earned 1-0 victory over FC Greasby in a very even affair as they went through to the next round.
Next Sunday sees the First Division cup final take place at Cammell Laird 1907 FC ground when PLCCFC will play West Kirby Athletic in an 11.00am kick off.
